I saw my former bass player Mike Fitzbenjamin on your website, so I just surfed in to take a look. Mike used to work with me on many gigs.

Mr. Fells: My name is Eric Henry: rare jazz lover. We may have something in common. I, too am horn player, who is a late bloomer as well. (alto and soprano saxophones, but started on the flute)and I was a bit interested and intrigued by the type of style you play in. I have met Mr. Cherry a few times in the most unlikely of places, at a gym where he was working out, and I have 3 of his cd,s including one I like featuring Joe Ford. Since am in the S. bronx, i will check out the group. I am originally from Cleveland, Oh. But I have lived in Manhattan until, well, let us say I was gentrified out by the high rents of that often times, wonderful, but troubled part of Manhattan known as Harlem. So, I am here, or have been here, with both horns, and not too many places to jam and play.( My actress female mate, snapped at me a while back " why do I want to move there?" ) As I said before, this is not Manhattan, and the lack of jazz here is acceptable, but appalling. You can take, from the Bronx, culturally what you can contribute and get. I sometimes get a bit discouraged with all the industry and commerce and general overall makeup of the Bronx. It takes a while getting used to, after all what did I say? ( this is not Manhattan) but it is affordable. I hope to certainly see the quartet perform one day. In fact I wlll see you guys play soon, given the lack of pure jazz in the borough. I checked out a couple of audio samples, and your guys sound like a lot of the jazz bands I hear from my home city of Cleveland. Now,I can play and read, but I used to be an Avant Gardist, and I tend to think that Jazz needs innovation, and openess. But one has to be careful how to use it. I also love straight ahead playing. So, I do like Ed,s work. His style is kind of my style. And so is Joe Ford and Sonny Fortune, and a few other alto players I could rattle off, but do not have the time or space to do so, since I have said enough already. I am now 48, have studied with Bill Saxton, Ken McIntyre ( the late) and a beautiful player of Venezuelan descent, Rolando Briscenio, who is more classically trained. He pointed me in that direction as well. I see you play Tenor, well maybe you could teach me a thing or two. After all, I love my old Soprano, when I can play it in tune. And my alto is a nice newer Yamaha. Yes,I studied classical, on the b-foot flute, funny, I sold it about ten yrs ago. I miss it, but not too much. Since there are not too many players here in the Bronx, what are my chances of hooking up with you provided your busy schedule? I am at blah, blah, blah, 646-842-2119, in a brand new building on run down Washington avenue. ( I understand the Film Fort Apache, was filmed here in 1979?)or henry1011@optonline.net. Hope to meet you soon. I will up on my music reading game, so I will not dissapoint. I am also a CUNY grad. as well, but not in music, even though I tried to hang in there once with Mr. Ron Carters student ensemble one time. hotep eric l. henry
